“THE HUNT” / DXTR THE WEIRD / LINZ, AUSTRIA 2016

During the 5 Year Anniversary of The Weird Crew countless spray cans were emptied and many walls were painted. One of the mural’s created back then was DXTR‘s “The Hunt”.

A mural that not only shows the artist’s unique style but reflects his views on today’s world affairs.

DXTR was so kind and shared his thoughts with us.

“Those who are familiar with my work might know that I like a simplified aesthetic, very graphic and bold imagery which incorporates a story and meaning behind the painted symbolism.

The pixelated concept I’m doing these days is a logic next step to simplify my work.

“The Hunt” mural in Linz at Mural Harbour was an approach to create a scenery that symbolizes what’s going on in this world nowadays.
We are living in absolutely dangerous times, where it seems to be possible [again] for several institutions to combat freedom and humanity.

Whether it’s Austria, Poland, Hungary, the US, Germany – [etc.], right wing populists get another chance of deconstructing freedom and trying to infiltrate society with their stupid propaganda.

An era, where it’s nearly possible for a right wing demagogue to become president of the US, is of course alarming.

To get back to the imagery painted in Linz, we see four wolves/foxes/beasts that hunt down a peace dove which almost gets caught.

The four beasts symbolize current politics and mindsets that try to smash or break up this world’s freedom, which is symbolized by the frightened dove trying to fly away.

Another point of that concept was Nychos‘ wall next to mine, a giant snake whose skeleton head is snatching into the direction of the peace dove. The dove is almost caught and we can only hope it can escape.”   – DXTR.
