RABBITS CELEBRATE THEIR 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

+WORLD PREMIERE OF ”THE DEEPEST DEPTHS OF THE BURROW”+
In 2005 NYCHOS painted his first white rabbit – this was the hour when RABBIT EYE MOVEMENT came into being. To celebrate our 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY, we are holding a series of events throughout March & April 2015:
On March, 19th the RABBIT EYE MOVEMENT Art Space will open a retrospective exhibition telling the story of how the REM street art concept began and developed throughout the years. Featuring works from the entire lifetime of the rabbits, this show pays homage to a movement that gives a home to urban art and all its future potential.
In addition to the show, we are going to release two artists collaboration prints and a brand new RABBIT EYE MOVEMENT gear collection.
with contributions from: Die Made I Foerdl I Frau Isa I Game Boy I Knarf I Lauren YS I Michael Hacker I Nychos
Die Made (Maggot) started in 2005 and was extremely active in pasting and putting up stickers for at least 4 years. Already in 2006 it was the most seen street icon in the Austrian Street Art movement. After putting up 13.000 stickers mainly in Vienna, but also other places around the world, die Made disappeared without a trace.
Foerdl has been an artist friend of Nychos since the beginning of the Rabbit Eye Movement. Both were good friends of Nicholas Platzer (Inoperable Gallery). Soon after finishing Art University in Vienna he got more and more into tattooing. Today he runs Vienna Electric Tattoo and is also responsible for Nychos’ first tattoo. We’re looking forward to seeing the collaboration work between the two of them at the 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY SHOW.
Frau Isa originally called herself Joy. Nychos met her 10 years ago in Corinthia, where Joy was based back then. They got really good friends after she moved to Vienna. She changed her alter ego 5 years ago and joined THE WEIRD as the only woman. Today she’s married to the designer and artist Oliver Toman who is a friend of Nychos since 2003. Both live in vienna running a design company named WALD&SCHWERT.
Game Boy ( I ♥ Boy) started with tags in the first place before he began painting T-shirts based on the very well known T-shirt design I ♥ NY. The fact that everybody out there knew this design made sure that BOY got recognized fast. Game Boy also disappeared after 3 years of going hard.
Knarf came far later to Vienna. Since then he has been active all over the place with his crew IRGA IRGA. He’s also a good friend of Foerdl and Michael Hacker. Although he’s still young in the game he climbs up the ladder really fast with painting and traveling all around the world. Knarf & Nychos are collaborating for the 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY SHOW and will release a limited edition silk screen print together.
Knochen is one of the paste-up street artists like Die Made who started in 2005. He often joined the maggot on his night missions to also get his icon (a bone) up. You could mostly see their stickers and paste-ups put up in the same places.
Lauren YS just finished Stanford University 2 years ago and moved to San Francisco working for Juxtapoz Magazine. In San Francisco she met Nychos and Christian Fischer on their tour while they were working on the documentary ”The Deepest Depths Of The Burrow”. This was the point when she started to get involved in the RABBIT EYE MOVEMENT. One year later, in 2014, she has been artist in residence at the REM Art Space, where she also had a solo exhibition.
Michael Hacker (Metal Mike) and Nychos got to know each other in 2005. Both share the love to cartoons, comics and heavy metal. Michael is famous for his amazing and super funny gig posters and his loony illustrations. For the 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY SHOW Nychos and Hacker (both professional air guitar heroes) are going to collaborate in their brand new ”band-project” IRONY MAYHEM and will release their very first band poster.
From 9th-11th of April NYCHOS will paint a massive dissected polar bear on a wall in Vienna. THe location will be open to the public all three days, so visitors will have the opportunity to see a huge mural emerging in person. Stay tuned for the exact address – it’s still secret and will be given away via Facebook and Instagram.
On April 15th, the festival will culminate with the world premier of ”The Deepest Depths of the Burrow”, an art documentary featuring one and a half years of NYCHOS and the RABBIT EYE MOVEMENT working all around the globe. Artists from all over the world provide a unique view into their cultures as they lead us through the streets of their home cities. Fed by the spirit of this massive family of urban artists, the documentary captures the ethos of urban art in a way that has never been seen before.
To round out these three major events, there will be a series of parties and smaller events. Check out the time table below and make sure not to miss anything and join our festival event on Facebook!
